Summary
Having been long fascinated by interactive projects in popular music, I dedicated my masters thesis to exploring its state in music culture. The hope was to use my research to inform a product that would help the interactive media become more prevalent in music. My research eventually resulted in LEV, a platform where artists can design and publish interactive projects. In this case study, I present my research areas and findings as well as the concept development and UI design of LEV.

Research Areas
In order to understand the cultural challenges faced by interactive technology, I studied the development of a similarly visual technology, Video.
Research Questions
I used the video form as a reference because of its uniquely stratified history and visible reaction to technological advancements.

Video in Music
I studied the major technological milestones in the intersection between music and video throughout the last century.

Advantages in Video
My research found that the following factors assisted the success of video in popular music.

Interactive Media
I then studied interactive music projects over the last three decades in order to examine the factors that assisted their success.

LEV is a web-based platform that provides a central space for artists to develop and host interactive audio-visual projects.
The platform features two modes:

Studio Mode User Journey
(Creator Flow)

Host Mode
(Viewer Flow)

Studio Mode
Launch and Define Parameters
Create a new project by launching Studio from the Home Page through + Create. Creators define basic parameters of their project & upload audio and visual assets.

Configure and Publish
Creators define how users interact with their project and publish the project.

Host Mode
View and Interact
Users view & interact with a project, and save the results of their interaction.
